Yankee Candles – Safety & General Tips

Storing Yankee Candles
All Yankee candles are sensitive to light & temperature so you should be careful when storing to avoid melting, the colour fading or cracking. Store the candles in a cool dry place away from any direct sunlight.
- Handle with care, especially the glass containers/jars as they are fragile
- Place the candle on a protected, heat-resistant, dry surface, away from anything that can catch fire
- Always burn candles out of reach of children and pets
- Only use holders designed for the particular style of candle
- Never leave burning candles unattended
- Avoid burning candles in draughts
- Trim the wicks to ¼” before lighting
- If smoking occurs, blow the candle out, trim the wicks, remove the trimmings and relight the candle
- Extinguish candles with care as the wax may splatter

- Never allow the flame to touch the side of the jar as it may become very hot
- To minimize wax left on the sides of the jar burn the candle for 3 hours at a time but it is normal for some of the wax to be left, with the amount varying per colour, fragrance and the burning conditions
- To prevent heat damage to the surface the candle is placed on, put out the candle when ½” of wax is left
- Always extinguish carefully and fully before replacing the lid
- Avoid glass to glass contact when removing/replacing the lid
- Do not use if the jar is at all cracked, chipped or scratched
- Do not refill the jars with wax
- Illuma-lids and jar shades are great candle tools that help prevent tunneling and promote a clean, even burn and can enhance the look of any room

- Place one unwrapped melt in a melt warmer
- Wax Melts can be used in Yankee Candle Electric Melt Warmers
- Use a well ventilated candle lit Melt Warmer without a lid and the Burner should have at least a 2″ top opening
- Within 5 – 10 minutes the wax melt will begin to melt and start giving off its amazing scent
Votive candles are made specifically to liquify, so they must be burnt in a suitable votive holder and never be burnt freestanding

- Scented tea lights will float in water – unscented ones will not
- Do not burn the scented tea lights in an enclosed container like a Melt Warmer
